ARRL Field Day 2024

The Wiregrass Amateur Radio Club will once again participate in ARRL Field Day on Saturday and Sunday, June 22-23, 2024. The club will be set up at Northside Methodist Academy, located at 2600 Redmond Road in Dothan.  The club will be operating starting at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 22.

The purpose of ARRL Field Day is to practice portable operations and hone our emergency communications skills. Amateur radio plays a huge role in the community, especially in the event of a natural disaster when normal communications are down for any period of time. Field Day gives us the opportunity to practice set-up and operation of our stations, so we can better respond when the need arises.

If you are a ham radio licensee, regardless if you are a club member or not, we invite you out to participate. Even if you do not have an amateur radio license, we invite you to come out and see what it’s all about. We’ll even let you get on the air if you like!

Hey guys can one of you tell me where your 2 meter repeater antenna is exactly? I live in upper Coffee County and currently only have my satellite beams available for 2 meters at that distance. Seems my vertical cannot make the trip for some reason. I’m still able to hit Troy,Enterprise, Geneva, Victoria (3 miles away), even Montgomery at times with vertical and beams. Wasn’t sure if something had changed in Dothan or not. I’m on a ridge so with my Satellite Leo Pack I can hit most antennas not obstructed. If any of you guys are into satellite and have a Icom 9700, or Kenwood TS2000 sure would like to gets some pointers from you.
Anyway thanks in advance and those antenna locations would be awesome, so I know the elevation and direction it’s easy to overshoot especially elevation.
    Thanks again

The repeater is located on Highway 52 east of Dothan. The repeater does not have a courtesy tone so make sure you try and contact someone otherwise you won’t know if you’re making the trip or not.
