April 2, 2026 W4DHN Meeting

Meeting was called to order.  One new member attending.  Welcome Bob!  17 members present.
Secretary & Treasure’s Reports were read and approved.
Reports of last months NNSN Workday on Power Supplies demonstrated by Steve, Al & Bob JV’s visit to Dothan Dodge to help find the culprit of discharging batteries and not working key fobs, and the impromptu POTA get together at Dale County Park were all purveyed.
Under Topics:
A question arose as to if WARC carries insurance on all our equipment.  No one knew off the top of their head, so Al said he would check into it.  It was mentioned that ARRL carries such insurance should we need it.
The Future WARC Activities Sheet was mentioned to keep members up to date on happenings.
April 4th is the RaDAR Rallies.  Greg will be at Dale County Park.
April Tailgate is coming up on the 25th.  The Spring Tailgate Opportunities List STILL needs some helpers.  I expect to see volunteers to be on hand for the Tape Measure Antenna with Steve and some volunteers to help Alan with the Antenna Park.  We need some back up folks for the Kids Educational Station.  WE NEED VENDORS and people to get the flyers out.  It would be preferrable if you would let us know that you will make the commitment to help in a particular area.
Rookie Roundup is April 19th.  Charles and Jimmie will be at the club helping newbies (hams licensed less than 3 years) get on the air and making contacts and answering any questions.  Charles will put out information closer to the date with times.
June 6th is the Tri-States Bike Ride.  Charles will check with bike club and see if they want to come touch base with us next meeting.
Clinton then did a presentation of a Jungle Antenna.
At the NNSN Workday, Jimmie did the build for Clinton.  Simple and works!  Just like Hams like it!  Great job!
Attached are flyers for you to pass out, post, disseminate…. do something with to get people to come!

Greetings! My name is Billy McCarthy, (and friend of the famous Ed Winkler). My father passed away last September and left me with quite an assortment of Ham gear. I’m hoping to “find new homes” for the gear so that it might continue to bless someone as well as support my mother. It’s quite a list, but I’ll provide a few examples: Hammarlund (HQ18-A), a Johnson Viking Ranger, Collins (6 pieces of transmitters and receivers), Drake (5 pieces) and a Kenwood (TS-850S and 940S). (One of the six Collins pieces is a 30S-1 Amplifier that was too heavy to bring home but it’s available.) I have pictures as well. While it’s in immaculate condition (externally), I have no way of knowing if it’s functional – and if so – to what degree (given the tubes and all). I have several keys, and other pieces of equipment used to rotate the antenna on top of his 120 ft. tower. The tower is available as well. If you can take it down, you can have it. (It’s in Roswell, Ga.) While I would be willing to sell separately, I’d prefer to make a package arrangement if an individual or group would be interested. I heard there’s an event at the end of the month in Headland and would be willing to bring the aforementioned to the square, but would also offer it up ahead of time if anyone would be interested. I can be reached at (334) 805-8050. Thanks in advance for your consideration. Again, I’d humbly submit Ed Winkler as a character reference. 73s to you! (That’s right, isn’t it?)

      Billy,

Yes, Ed is a jewel! We will not have a meeting prior to our Tailgate on Saturday, April 25th so it really would be best to haul all you can down to the tailgate in order to reach more people in one fell swoop. If you have a table or a tailgate to showcase stuff on helps. We are expecting a larger than normal crowd than we normally have since this is a tri-club event. There is electricity at the gazebo for testing equipment but I would also bring some cards with your name and number for buyers just in case they have further questions or need to return something that just won’t cooperate. (Of course if you are unsure of an item’s working condition you can state it on the item and discount it with no returns marked.) I am sure you know all that, anyway, we would love to have you. We officially open at 9am but you can be there after 8am for set up. We will assist you anyway we can:-) 73 BLCurtis
